The GLORIA ( G eological LO ng- R ange I nclined A sdic) system is a digital sidescan sonar system capable of producing 8-bit digital image maps of the seafloor from reflected sound waves. GLORIA was owned and operated by British researchers at the United Kingdom 's Institute of Oceanographic Sciences (IOS), now the Southampton Oceanography Centre, Challenger Division, and operated for over two decades from the early 1980's.
GLORIA operated at 6.5 KHz, and provided 50-meter resolution over a 30 Km swath in waters deeper than 400 meters.
Tools in the OICToolkit support conversion and processing of raw GLORIA data disks. For further information, contact OIC.
